Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term, made up of the words ‘ayus’ and ‘veda’. ‘Ayus’ means life and ‘Veda’ means knowledge or science. Ayurveda has been practiced in India for over 6,000 years and it is the mother of all modern holistic practices.
It is distinct from Western medicine in its focus on prevention of disease. In addition, practicing Ayurveda will pluck the root out of illness rather than simply treating its symptoms. Practitioners of Ayurveda recognize the interwoven nature of the spirit and mind with the body. An Ayurvedic lifestyle integrates nutrition and exercise with mind and spirit–centered therapies. In this tradition, humans are viewed as apart of nature.
Health shines brightly in the person who places him or herself in harmony with all life.
