For anyone interested in training to be an Ayurvedic Health Counselor or Practitioner, Patricia Wickman and her online school (Radiant Living Online School of Ayurveda) is an excellent choice. Patricia is a kind, caring, compassionate and very knowledgable instructor. She is very passionate about her calling and that makes the amount of new and challenging information so much more enjoyable to learn. She has made an incredible effort to provide a thorough education to prepare us to practice the wonderful art and science of caring for and helping heal the whole person through Ayurveda.
I am trained as an allopathic physician in Family Medicine. For a variety of reasons which include feeling somewhat disillusioned with where healthcare is at in this country right now, I decided to resign from my job with Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire, WI.  I did not know what I really wanted to do, only that I still felt called to be a healer but not in the traditional Western sense that I had been practicing for 25 years.  When I learned of Patricia’s school and learned a little more about Ayurveda, I was intrigued.  My curiosity and desire to offer a more holistic way to heal that acknowledged the innate abilities and wisdom of each individual and their body eventually led me to sign up. I am now a year two intern.
For the future, I would love to eventually establish an Ayurvedic Wellness Center and Spa. I would also love to “bring this on the road” so to speak as retreats offering Ayurvedic guidance for healing out in some of Nature’s spectacular settings. I am not sure exactly what it will all look like but it is an exciting journey.
Finally, to really appreciate how Ayurveda can help the mind body and spirit well-being of any individual, you start with how it does so for you. As a doctor I have such a different vision of health now for myself and my clients (let alone friends and family). I am very grateful to be a part of Patricia’s program and am so appreciative of her gifts as a teacher.
Please let me know if I can answer any questions from a student’s perspective. I don’t think you would ever regret investing in this training for your own sake as well as that of so many other fellow human beings!

I first met Patricia four years ago for an Ayurvedic consultation. I had no idea what Ayurveda even was, but I was referred by a good friend and, being a life-long health-nut, I was excited to see what it was all about. Needless to say, I was immediately hooked. I went through Panchakarma soon after my first visit, and I think it would be fair to say my life was transformed. A large part of the experience was with whom I experienced it with: Patricia. She epitomizes honesty, sincerity, dignity, and compassion. I know this had much to do with my incredible outcome. From then I pursued Ayurvedic education on my own, through Patricia’s guidance (she had not set up her school yet). This continued and I slowly integrated lifestyle modifications into my family’s routine (which is now so commonplace in our home, even our 5 kids, ages 5-15, don’t remember life without knowing their doshas!). When Radiant Living Online School of Ayurveda became a reality, it was a no-brainer for me to join. I think one of the best things I can say is this: you can seek and find education for any specialty anywhere and get it. What you are not guaranteed, however, is a teacher with integrity, passion, wisdom, experience, patience, acceptance, “realness,” and love. Patricia embodies all that Ayurveda is and this is expressed in her teaching, lessons, guidance, and commitment to her students.  She is fierce about abiding by the standards set forth by NAMA and makes certain we are all aware of our expectations while still guiding us through the process. She will forever be a loving mentor and friend to me and all her students, as her mission is clearly to educate and care for everyone, and make Ayurveda accessible to everyone!

Studying with Patricia has transformed my life–first as a yoga student 10 years ago, then as an Ayurvedic client and now as a student of Ayurveda. Contact with Patricia is like a soothing balm: gentle reassurance that health is within reach and is our natural state in fact, and that there are simple practices each of us can implement to get there. I am so excited to be integrating my understanding of both the Western and Ayurvedic perspectives on how the human body, mind and spirit moves away from health and can return to it. The course of study is rigorous. There is so much to learn! Ayurvedic theories, daily practices, food choices, anatomy, physiology, herbs, pulse reading, tongue landscape and more. Ayurvedic body therapies also assist in bringing the doshas back into balance. We are reminded that Ayurveda unfolds as you practice it and share it with others.
Bringing your attention to Ayurveda with Patricia will begin to work on you in ways you cannot imagine, benefiting your family, friends and clients and opening new horizons for growth and healing and joy. If you get very quiet and listen, you will feel either an urge to take up this path or hesitation. Listen to your inner wisdom. That’s what I’ve learned studying with Patricia.

I have always been interested in holistic living, and finding Radiant Living Online School of Ayurveda provided an excellent focus and in-depth learning environment. In this class, Patricia takes you on a journey to see how Ayurveda can change your life on many levels. It is clear that she has put her heart and soul into this school as it is filled with incredible knowledge. Patricia uses notes, slides, videos and interesting stories and tidbits to demonstrate how ayurvedic concepts can be applied to real life. All of these combine to make Ayurveda fun through a multi-faceted learning environment.
There are also interesting guest teachers that present on a variety of related subjects within Ayurveda. Sound healing, herbs, pulse, skin care, and essential oils are just a few. Radiant Living’s online school is a chance worth taking.

I came to find Ayurvedic medicine through illness. Other than being overweight, which I have been since age 5, I have been healthy all my life. I grew up being very active and doing whatever I wanted. I danced, did triathlons, did cross fit and then when my career became too busy, I came into my “40’s” feeling huge changes in my body. I was getting injured more frequently, keeping me inactive for longer periods. I was eating more processed on-the-go foods. I was sleeping less and feeling stressed out all the time. I’m an OBGYN so the hours are unpredictable.
I had a viral infection I couldn’t shake and then I developed psoriasis: “Textbook plaque psoriasis” the Dermatologist says. “Subclinical hypothyroidism and insulin resistance” states the Internist, to the person who up to this point has never taken a pill or vitamin in her life. I was in shell shock. The treatment was steroids and lifestyle change or more meds.  I was a hot mess. At this time, I was searching food as medicine and then that is when Ayurveda kept coming into my awareness. I looked for a place in San Antonio and at that time there was no one practicing here.  I was guided to Patricia miraculously by dialing a wrong number.  She had recently moved here and was starting her practice. She took her time in my initial consultation as I answered her questions. She guided me initially to certain treatments to use with herbs and teas and introduced me to the 3 doshas.  I was quickly fascinated. Her body treatments are phenomenal. I combine marma treatments and abhyanga.
She asked me if I was interested in joining her class and honestly I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. It is a whole new world of medicine in its approach to combining mind/body/spirit.  Many times my brain was amazed about the things I would learn from Patricia and the other participants in the class. Patricia is meticulous and well prepared to teach her course. She keeps to her curriculum as presented and gives us the information we need to know. She brings in experts into the class that enhance the experience and help us further understand topics at hand.  She is honest, gentle and makes one feel at peace just being in her presence. When I put my headphones on every Tuesday, I knew it was “me” time and I was going to learn something great to both help heal myself and others.I was able to stop drinking diet sodas. I have been addicted for 25 years. I underwent Panchakarma this year and I felt a complete difference to my system.  My skin improved. My psoriasis improved. My energy level went up.  I still enjoy the treatments. Little steps are making a big difference in my life overall.I’m keeping the doors open for new opportunities to see what this experience will bring me. I still continue to practice allopathic ob/gyn with an ayu twist.  I do plan to continue my studies in Ayurveda. I highly recommend this course.
